loosing-present participle of loose (Verb)
1. Set free; release: "the hounds have been loosed".
2. Untie; unfasten: "the ropes were loosed".
That is all.
It drives me crazy when people do that. A couple of people I follow are notorious for making this mistake and do it at least four times in every post.
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteGoing OOG and commenting.
ReplyDeleteThank you. And I do mean this in ever serious sense possible. I'm still learning. I'm just back to school after no schooling in way too long. I make this mistake. Now I will be going through entries and fixing my boo-boos. I wish college writing courses went through more about these things that were confused. Because honestly, that is what it is for me. Confusion and thinking it's one way when it's actually the other.
Honestly, if something bothers people, and it happens constantly, it's likely people don't realize their mistake. And there's no possible way to correct mistakes if we're not told we're making them. There's more than one reason my e-mail is public.
Once again thank you. Another lesson learned and taken. I do appreciate it, otherwise I'd probably very likely have kept going on making this mistake.
Not just bloggers, but anyone who ever writes anything. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteOne of my pet hates right there. Although, I must admit I did get confused once. On a MENSA home-IQ-test no less. Mind you I was chewing a clove of garlic at the time.
ReplyDeleteThey never wrote back, the cowards. You'd think they could spare a little sheet of paper to say "Sorry, but you're difinitely not within the 98th percentile.", but then again I bet they get a lot of people trying to apply.
I'm not sure what I would have done if I had been accepted. I wonder if MENSA's ever had any members that are technically insane?
YES. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIf you "lose" a dog, the dog has vanished. If you "loose" a dog, you've let it go.
Also, if I may quote Strong Bad:
Ohhhh, if you want it to be possessive, it's just I-T-S,
But if it's supposed to be a contraction, then it's I-T-apostrophe-S...
Scalawag!
Seems like I made that mistake a few times in the past! But it isn't easy to write anything at all if you have to concentrate on something else entirely, say the reconstruction of twenty-something dimensions after a huge bleeding! What I call "minor bleeding" can be seen on "Observe and Terminate"! This minor bleeding was the direct result of the huge one! I am rather happy it stayed small until I was able to fix it! That doesn't happen often! Any new bleeding problems over there would have to have other causes!
DeleteWHAT IS WITH THE EXCLAMATION POINTS?!?!?!?!
